Historical Background The history of the Taraknath Temple dates back to the 18th century during the reign of King Krishna Chandra Roy of Bengal. Legend has it that the king dreamt of a divine presence instructing him to unearth a sacred Lingam (an abstract representation of Lord Shiva).
